Assessing linearity in high dimensions

چکیده
Some standard numerical problems become intractable in high dimensions. Yet successes are often achieved in practice. This may be explained in terms of the underlying target function being somehow simpler than assumed in the intractability arguments. A prototypical form of simplicity is approximate linearity. In moderate dimensions linearity can be investigated by linear regression. In very high dimensions this becomes computationally inefficient and eventually infeasible, as the cost of regression for n observations in d dimensions grows as nd2. This paper presents a quasi-regression method for determining the degree of linearity in a function, where the cost grows only as nd. A bias corrected version of quasi-regression is able to estimate the degree of linearity with a sample size of order d2/3. An example is given of a function on [0, 1]1,000,000, for which the amount of linear variability is accurately estimated from only 100, 000 observations.

Design of High Sensitivity and Linearity Microelectromechanical Systems Capacitive Tire Pressure Sensor using Stepped Membrane
This paper is focused on a novel design of stepped diaphragm for MEMS capacitive pressure sensor used in tire pressure monitoring system. The structure of sensor diaphragm plays a key role for determining the sensitivity of the sensor and the non-linearity of the output.First the structures of two capacitive pressure sensors with clamped square flatdiaphragms, with different thicknesses are inv...
متن کاملThe Comparison of the Point-of-Care Serum Procalcitonin Assay Method with the BRAHMS Certified Method
Background and Aims: As a method for the diagnosis and management of sepsis, the serum procalcitonin assay is routinely used, especially in the emergency department (ED) and intensive care units (ICU). Procalcitonin has reasonable diagnostic accuracy for bacteremia in hospitalized patients of all age groups with suspected infection or sepsis. This study aimed to compare the Getein Biotech proca...
متن کاملMethods to evaluate the performance of kilovoltage cone-beam computed tomography in the three-dimensional reconstruction space
Background: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanners for image-guided radiotherapy are in clinical use today, but there has been no consensus on uniform acceptance to verify the CBCT image quality yet. The present work proposed new methods to fully evaluate the performance of CBCT in its three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction space. Materials and Methods: Compared to the traditional methods...

متن کاملSeparation of Somatropin and Its Degradation Products by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Using a Reversed-Phase Polymeric Column
The accurate prediction of protein stability is one of the most challenging goals in protein formulation and delivery. In this study, a gradient RP-HPLC method is described for the separation of human growth hormone (hGH) variants as deamidated and oxidized forms. The methodology employed a polymeric poly (styrene-co-divinylbenzene) column and a 1mL/min flow rate of a linear gradient of 0.1% v/...
